소개 ㅣ인간의 표정을 통해 삶의 흔적을 담아내던 강유림 작가는 시선을 자연으로 확장하며 존재와 시간에 관한 심오한 탐구를 이어간다. 작가에게 '얼굴'이 살아온 시간의 응축이자 서사였다면, '숲'은 시간과 존재가 머무르는 거대한 생명 공간으로 다가온다. 이번 전시에서 작가는 자연의 형상을 단절된 관조의 대상이 아닌, 무수한 시간의 층위가 겹겹이 쌓여 완성된 하나의 유기적 공간으로 재구성한다.

초기 작업에서 한지와 먹의 번짐을 통해 시간의 농담(濃淡)을 담아냈다면, 최근 작업에서는 석채를 매개로 물성과 색채의 축적을 고찰한다. 화면 위로 켜켜이 올라간 색과 마띠에르는 올리고 덜어내는 작위적 행위의 반복 속에서 비로소 완성된다. 형태를 비워낼수록 화면에는 시간이 남고, 눈에 보이는 형상보다 보이지 않는 자연의 기운이 더욱 선명해진다. 화면을 관통하는 대나무의 수직적 리듬 역시 대상의 단순한 재현을 넘어, 제자리를 지키며 서로 기대어 서는 존재들의 호흡이자 시간의 축적을 드러내는 시각적 언어이다.

매일의 반복된 붓질을 하나의 수행으로 받아들이는 작가는 자연이 시간을 머금는 방식을 닮아가고자 한다. 먹의 층과 석채의 질감, 화면을 스치는 미세한 흔적들은 존재를 형성하는 가장 근본적인 구조인 '시간'을 천천히 쌓아 올린 결과물이다.

강유림 작가의 작품은 관객으로 하여금 정지된 풍경을 넘어 그 안에 스며든 보이지 않는 숨결과 마주하게 한다. 유연하지만 견고하게 쌓아 올린 시간의 층위 앞에서, 관람객은 각자의 시간을 조용히 응시하며 스스로의 존재를 마주하는 침묵의 순간을 경험하게 될 것이다.

오랫동안 나는 사람의 얼굴을 그려왔다. 얼굴은 한 인간이 살아온 시간의 흔적이며, 말보다 먼저 존재를 드러내는 풍경이었다. 타인의 얼굴을 바라보는 일은 결국 나 자신을 응시하는 일이었고, 그 시선은 자연스럽게 존재에 대한 질문으로 이어졌다.

숲을 걷고, 바람을 듣고, 대나무가 흔들리는 소리를 바라보며 깨달았다. 자연 또한 인간처럼 시간을 품고 살아간다는 것을. 최근의 작업에서 그 질문은 자연으로 옮겨갔다. 숲은 더 이상 바라보는 대상이 아니라 시간과 존재가 머무는 하나의 공간이 되었다.

나의 작업은 그 시간을 화면 위에 쌓아가는 과정이다.

초기의 작업에서는 한지 위에 먹을 스며들게 하며 시간의 층을 만들어 갔다. 먹은 번지고 마르기를 반복하며 깊이를 만들었고, 한지의 결은 시간을 품는 그릇이 되었다. 반복되는 붓질은 단순한 표현이 아니라 지나온 시간을 화면에 새기는 행위였다.

최근의 작업에서는 석채를 사용해 화면의 마띠에르를 만들고, 그 위에 다시 색을 올리고 덜어내는 과정을 반복한다. 켜켜이 쌓인 색은 단순한 색채의 축적이 아니라 시간이 지나간 흔적이며, 물질과 색, 질감이 만나 이루는 화면은 또 다른 시간의 층위를 품는다. 그렇게 화면은 하나의 풍경이 아니라 시간이 응축된 공간으로 존재하게 된다.

대나무는 끊임없이 자라지만 제자리를 떠나지 않는다. 수많은 줄기들이 서로를 기대며 숲을 이루고, 빛과 바람은 그 사이를 스쳐 지나간다. 화면 속 반복되는 수직의 리듬은 형태를 재현하기 위한 것이 아니라 시간의 축적과 존재의 호흡을 드러내기 위한 언어이다.

매일 반복되는 작업은 나에게 수행과도 같다. 붓을 들고 화면을 마주하는 시간 속에서 나는 자연의 시간을 닮아가고, 그 시간의 층 위에서 비로소 작은 위로를 얻는다. 형태를 덜어낼수록 화면에는 오히려 더 많은 시간이 남고, 보이는 형상보다 보이지 않는 기운이 더욱 선명해진다.

대나무는 시간의 형상이고, 먹은 시간의 층이며, 마띠에르 위에 켜켜이 쌓인 색은 시간의 흔적이다. 화면을 스쳐 지나가는 작은 흔적들은 시간을 스치는 숨결처럼 머물다 사라진다.

나는 자연을 그리는 것이 아니라, 시간이 존재를 이루는 방식을 그리고자 한다. 시간은 보이지 않지만 모든 존재를 이루는 가장 깊은 구조이며, 나의 작업은 그 보이지 않는 시간을 화면 위에 천천히 쌓아 올리는 과정이다.

그림 앞에 선 누군가가 잠시 자신의 시간을 들여다보고, 그 안에서 조용히 존재를 마주할 수 있다면, 그 순간 이 작업은 비로소 완성된다.

Having previously captured the traces of human life through facial expressions, artist Yoo-Lim Kang expands her gaze toward nature, continuing a profound exploration of existence and time. Where the "face" was once a narrative and a condensation of lived time, the "forest" emerges as a vast living sanctuary where time and existence reside. In this exhibition, Kang reconstructs the forms of nature not as objects of detached contemplation, but as an organic space created through overlapping layers of time.

While her early works expressed the subtle tones of time through the bleeding of ink on traditional Korean paper (hanji), her recent practice delves into the accumulation of materiality and color through natural mineral pigments (seokchae). Built layer upon layer, the colors and matière reach completion through a conscious cycle of adding and paring away. As forms are emptied, time remains on the canvas, rendering the invisible energy of nature far more vivid than its visual appearance. The vertical rhythm of bamboo traversing the surface goes beyond simple representation; it is a visual language revealing the breath of coexisting entities leaning on one another, as well as the accumulation of time.

Embracing the daily discipline of brushwork as a form of ascetic practice, Kang seeks to embody how nature retains time. The layers of ink, the texture of mineral pigments, and the subtle traces grazing the canvas are the results of slowly building up "time"—the most fundamental structure shaping existence.

Yoo-Lim Kang’s work invites viewers past the stationary landscape to encounter the invisible breath woven into it. Before these flexible yet solid strata of time, audiences are invited into a quiet moment of contemplation—confronting their own existence as they gaze into their own time.

Artist Statement

For a long time, I painted human faces. A face is the trace of time a person has lived—a landscape revealing existence before words ever could. Gazing at the face of another was ultimately an act of looking inward at myself, a gaze that naturally led to questions about existence.

Walking through the forest, listening to the wind, and watching the swaying bamboo, I realized that nature, much like humanity, lives while embracing time. In my recent work, my inquiry shifted toward nature. The forest ceased to be merely an object to look at; it became a space where time and existence dwell.

My work is the process of layering that time onto the canvas. In my early practice, I created layers of time by allowing ink to seep into hanji. As the ink repeatedly bled and dried, it forged depth, turning the texture of the paper into a vessel containing time. Repetitive brushstrokes were not mere expression, but an act of engraving elapsed time onto the surface.

Recently, I have used mineral pigments to create matière, repeating the process of applying and scraping away color. These accumulated layers are not a simple aggregation of pigment, but the footprints of passing time. The canvas—where material, color, and texture converge—holds yet another layer of temporal depth. Thus, the surface exists not as a static landscape, but as a space condensed with time.

Bamboo grows continuously yet never leaves its place. Countless stalks lean against one another to form a forest, while light and wind brush through them. The repeating vertical rhythms in my work do not aim to recreate form; they are a language designed to reveal the breath of existence and the accumulation of time.

This daily, repetitive work feels like an ascetic discipline. Facing the canvas with a brush in hand, I begin to resemble the tempo of nature, finding quiet solace atop these strata of time. The more I reduce the form, the more time remains on the screen, letting the invisible energy shine clearer than the visible shape.

Bamboo is the shape of time; ink is its layer; and the colors built atop the matière are its traces. The minute marks brushing across the canvas linger and fade like a breath passing through time.

I do not paint nature; I seek to paint the way time forms existence. Time is invisible, yet it is the deepest structure underlying all being. My work is the deliberate, patient process of building that invisible time onto the canvas.
If someone standing before my paintings takes a moment to look into their own time and quietly face their existence within it, only then will this work be truly complete.

소개 ㅣ오늘의 삶은 끊임없이 앞으로 나아갈 것을 요구한다. 더 많은 성취와 더 빠른 속도 속에서 우리는 어느새 자신을 바라보기보다 다음 순간을 향해 움직이는 데 익숙해졌다. 그러나 잠시 걸음을 늦추는 순간, 익숙했던 일상은 전혀 다른 얼굴로 우리 앞에 모습을 드러낸다. <다정한 그늘 아래>는 바로 그 느린 시선에서 출발한다.

정민희 작가는 내면의 평온을 품은 존재를 통해 조용한 머무름의 시간을 제안한다. 작품의 절제된 구성은 설명보다 침묵을 선택하고, 그 침묵은 관람자의 감각과 기억이 스며들 수 있는 여백이 된다.

정현 작가는 도시의 가장 가까운 자연과 작은 생명들을 응시한다. 나무와 꽃, 그리고 우리 곁을 살아가는 존재들은 특별한 사건 없이도 하나의 풍경을 이루며, 무심히 지나쳤던 일상의 질서를 다시 바라보게 한다.

이번 전시에서 '그늘'은 빛의 반대편이 아니다. 그것은 잠시 머물 수 있는 온도이며, 서두르지 않아도 되는 시간이다. 치열한 세계로부터 등을 돌리는 공간이 아니라, 자신의 호흡을 가다듬고 주변과 나란히 존재하는 감각을 회복하는 자리이다.

우리는 행복을 특별한 순간에서 찾으려 하지만, 오래도록 마음에 남는 것은 대개 이름 없는 하루의 풍경이다. 나무가 드리운 그늘, 햇살 아래 잠든 고양이, 편안히 눈을 감은 강아지의 모습처럼 사소한 장면들은 삶의 리듬을 천천히 되찾게 한다.

<다정한 그늘 아래>는 거창한 위로를 말하지 않는다. 다만 우리 곁에 오래 머물러 있었지만 미처 바라보지 못했던 평온의 풍경을 조용히 건넨다. 그 다정한 그늘 아래에서, 잠시 자신의 속도로 머물러 보는 시간을 만나기를 바란다.

리치는 나의 상징적 자아이고, 현실의 내가 오래도록 동경해온 마음의 상태이자 이미 내 안에 있었음을 뒤늦게 깨닫게 된 형상이다.눈을 감고 있는 리치는 세상을 거부하지 않는다. 그는 더 이상 애쓰지 않아도 되는 상태, 지금 이대로 충분하다고 말할 수 있는 자아를 상징한다.

작업 초기의 리치는 다소 단단한 형상으로 화면에 자리했다. 외부의 시선과 기대 속에서 자신을 지키려는 태도에 가까웠다. 그러나 시간이 흐르며 그 형상은 점차 작아지고 부드러워졌다. 현재의 리치는 낮잠을 자는 강아지처럼 고요하다. 그 고요함은 포기가 아니라, 어떤 과정을 통과한 이후에 도달한 평온이다. 리치는 그저 그곳에 머물며, 풍경과 분리되지 않은 채 조용히 스며든다.

리치는 혼자 있지만 외롭지 않다. 그는 무엇을 이루지 않아도 충분하고, 특별한 사건 없이도 행복하다. 이미 주어져 있는 것들을 바라보는 연습이며, 평온한 일상이 지닌 깊이를 천천히 그려가는 과정이다.

나는 리치를 통해 말하고 싶다. 우리는 때로 이미 충분한 상태에 서 있으면서도 그 사실을 알지 못한 채 스스로를 몰아붙인다고.
눈을 감은 리치는 그 자리에서 조용히 속삭인다.

지금 이대로도 괜찮다고.

자연은 우리에게 기쁨과 평안을 건네고, 우리는 다시 자연을 돌보며 함께 살아간다. 그 순환은 거창한 곳이 아니라 우리가 살아가는 일상 속에서 이어진다. 동네의 작은 화단과 가로수, 골목을 오가는 길고양이들은 때로는 무심히 지나치는 배경처럼 보이지만, 시선을 조금만 돌리면 우리 곁에서 함께 살아가는 다정한 이웃이 된다.

나는 도심의 좁은 틈에서도 꿋꿋하게 생명을 이어가는 존재들의 강인함과 따뜻함을 그리고 싶다. 이 작은 생명들이 전하는 고요한 위로가 작품을 마주하는 이들에게도 조용히 전해지기를 바란다.

<In the Gentle Shade > - Min-Hui Jeong, Jung Hyun

Introduction ㅣToday’s life constantly demands that we push forward. Swept up in the pursuit of faster speed and greater achievement, we have become accustomed to moving toward the next moment rather than pausing to look within. Yet, the moment we slow our steps, the familiar rhythm of daily life unveils a completely different face. In the Gentle Shade takes its departure from this very act of slowing down.

Artist Min-Hui Jeong proposes a time of quiet abiding through figures that embody inner serenity. The restrained compositions of her works choose silence over explanation—a silence that expands into an open space where the viewer's senses and memories can gently settle.

Artist Jung Hyun turns her gaze to the intimate nature and small living beings embedded within the city. Trees, flowers, and the creatures sharing our immediate surroundings come together to form a landscape without needing grand events, inviting us to rediscover the beauty in the ordinary order of everyday life.

In this exhibition, "shade" is not the opposite of light. It represents a temperature that welcomes us to linger and a moment where haste is no longer required. Rather than a sanctuary that turns its back on a challenging world, it is a space to gather one's breath and restore the sense of existing side by side with all that surrounds us.

While we often search for happiness in extraordinary moments, what lingers longest in our hearts is usually the nameless landscape of an ordinary day. Minor scenes—the shadow cast by a tree, a cat napping under the sunlight, a dog peacefully closing its eyes—allow us to slowly reclaim the natural cadence of life.

In the Gentle Shade offers no grandiose solace. Instead, it quietly extends the tranquil landscapes that have always been by our side, yet went unnoticed. Beneath this gentle shade, we invite you to pause and rest at your own authentic pace.

Artist Statement - Jeong, Min-Hui

"Rich" is my symbolic alter ego. He represents a state of mind I have long yearned for, and a presence I only belatedly realized had resided within me all along. With eyes gently closed, Rich does not reject the world. Rather, he symbolizes a self that no longer needs to strive—a self capable of saying, "I am enough, just as I am."

In my early works, Rich appeared on the canvas as a somewhat solid, defined figure—an attitude akin to protecting oneself against external gazes and expectations. Over time, however, his form grew smaller and softer. Today, Rich is as serene as a napping puppy. This quietness is not resignation, but a peace arrived at after passing through life's trials. Rich simply abides, seamlessly dissolving into the surrounding landscape without separation.

Though alone, Rich is never lonely. He is complete without achievement and fulfilled without dramatic events. He is an exercise in appreciating what is already given, a slow process of mapping the quiet depth found in peaceful daily life.

Through Rich, I wish to share a subtle truth: we often drive ourselves relentlessly without realizing we are already standing in a state of completeness.

With closed eyes, Lichi softly whispers from where he rests:

"You are fine, just as you are right now."

Artist Statement - Jung Hyun

Nature grants us joy and peace, and in return, we care for nature as coexisting companions. This cycle unfolds not in grand, distant places, but right within our everyday lives. Small flower beds in the neighborhood, street trees, and stray cats wandering through alleyways may seem like ordinary background elements. Yet, with just a slight shift in our gaze, they reveal themselves as gentle neighbors living alongside us.

I wish to capture the resilience and warmth of these small lives that steadfastly endure even within the narrow crevices of the city. It is my hope that the quiet solace offered by these tiny beings reaches gently into the hearts of those who stand before my works.

소개 ㅣ우리는 어떤 장면을 오래 바라볼 때, 눈앞의 형상보다 그 너머에 남아 있는 기운을 먼저 마주하게 된다. 분명 존재하지만 쉽게 붙잡히지 않는 흔적, 시간이 지나도 사라지지 않는 감각은 기억과 현재를 조용히 겹쳐 놓는다. 이번 기획전은 그러한 미묘한 순간들을 따라가며, 눈에 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것 사이의 간극을 탐색한다.

김나정 작가는 하나의 완결된 이미지를 제시하기보다 여러 겹의 표면과 희미한 흔적을 통해 끊임없이 변화하는 풍경을 만들어낸다. 투명한 섬유 위를 스치는 선과 바느질, 겹쳐진 이미지들은 서로를 가리지 않고 스며들며 깊이를 형성한다. 가까이에서는 섬세한 물성과 손의 움직임이 드러나고, 한 걸음 떨어져 바라볼 때에는 서로 다른 층위가 하나의 호흡처럼 이어진다.

작가에게 섬유는 단순한 매체가 아니라 시간과 감각을 품는 장소이다. 오간자의 투명한 결은 빛과 시선에 따라 끊임없이 달라지고, 겹쳐진 표면은 하나의 정답 대신 다양한 해석의 가능성을 열어 둔다. 작품 앞에서 관람자는 선명함보다 흐릿함 속에서 더 많은 것을 발견하게 되며, 그 과정에서 자신의 기억과 경험 또한 자연스럽게 화면 위에 포개진다.

모든 변화는 또 다른 모습으로 이어지고, 남겨진 흔적은 새로운 감각을 만들어낸다. 작가는 사라짐을 상실이나 끝으로 바라보지 않는다. 완전히 붙잡을 수도, 완전히 잃어버릴 수도 없는 순간들은 서로를 비추며 현재를 더욱 깊고 풍부하게 만든다.

작가노트 ㅣ나에게 ‘사라지는 영원’은 도달해야 할 어떤 초월적 시간이나 변하지 않는 상태가 아니다. 그것은 같은 자리를 맴도는 몸의 움직임 속에서, 조금씩 닳고 어긋나며 생성되는 시간의 감각이다. 같은 동선을 걷고, 같은 손짓으로 선을 긋고, 표면 위에 레이어를 쌓는 동안 화면은 흐려지고 형태는 해체된다. 그러나 그 흐릿함 속에서도 완전히 사라지지 않는 잔상과 미세한 떨림이 남는다. 나는 그 상태를 ‘사라지는 영원’이라 부른다.

이 작업에서 반복은 동일한 것의 재현이 아니라, 매번 다른 차이를 만들어 내는 생성의 리듬이다. 꽃의 형상은 되돌아오지만 같은 모습으로 머물지 않고, 선은 같은 자리를 지나면서도 흔들리고 어긋난다. 레이어는 서로를 덮으면서도 완전히 지우지 못한 채 잔상으로 남아 공존한다. 이러한 반복은 고정된 형태를 유지하기보다, 끊임없이 사라지고 변형되며 이어지는 시간의 흐름을 드러낸다.

‘사라지는 영원’은 소멸과 영속이 대립하지 않는 지점에서 발생한다. 사라짐은 끝이 아니라 새로운 형상으로 이동하는 과정이며, 영원은 그 운동 속에서 감지된다. 완전히 남아 있지도, 완전히 사라지지도 못한 채 중간 어딘가에 머무는 상태, 그 불확정적인 시간의 층위가 이 작업의 중심이다.

작업 속 레이어는 세 가지 시간의 감각을 동시에 드러낸다. 반복되는 손의 움직임과 바느질, 선 긋기는 몸에 각인된 ‘습관의 시간’을 형성한다. 겹쳐진 표면 아래 희미하게 남은 흔적들은 현재와 함께 존재하는 ‘기억의 시간’을 만든다. 그리고 매번 다른 방식으로 해체되고 구성되는 형상들은 차이를 반복하는 ‘영원의 시간’을 가리킨다.

섬유는 이러한 시간의 감각이 머무는 물질적 조건이다. 오간자의 얇고 투명한 표면은 겹쳐질수록 더 불분명해지고, 선과 이미지들은 층 사이에서 번진다. 이때 섬유는 단순한 재료가 아니라, 몸과 세계 사이에 놓인 제2의 피부처럼 작동한다. 쉽게 닳고 주름지며 흔적을 남기지만 완전히 제거될 수 없는 감각의 층으로서, 영원은 이 피부 위에 붙어 있다.

이 전시의 시간은 직선적으로 흐르지 않는다. 시작과 끝을 향해 나아가기보다, 같은 자리를 반복하며 어긋나는 루프를 형성한다. 그 속에서 형상은 희미해지고, 의미는 고정되지 않은 채 분산된다. 영원은 하나의 중심으로 수렴하지 않고, 서로 다른 레이어와 흔적 사이에서 발생하는 미세한 차이들의 집합으로 흩어진다.

결국 ‘사라지는 영원’은 삶과 죽음, 존재와 소멸 사이에 길게 놓인 중간의 시간이다. 그것은 저편의 세계가 아니라, 지금 여기에서 사라지면서도 완전히 사라지지 않는 현재의 두꺼운 층위다. 나는 그 중간 지대에서 발생하는 미세한 떨림을 따라가며, 반복 속에서 드러나는 영원의 얼굴을 더듬는다.

<Fading Eternity: Between Generation and Extinction> - NaJung KIM

Introduction ㅣ When we gaze at a scene for a long time, we often encounter the lingering aura beyond it before we notice the physical forms before our eyes. Traces that clearly exist yet evade our grasp, and sensations that refuse to fade over time, quietly overlap memory with the present. Following these subtle moments, this exhibition explores the interstitial space between the visible and the invisible.

Rather than presenting a singular, completed image, Najung Kim’s work creates an ever-shifting landscape through multiple layers of surfaces and faint traces. Lines brushing across transparent fabric, needlework, and overlapping images permeate one another without obscuring each other, generating a sense of depth. Up close, the delicate materiality and the movements of the artist’s hand reveal themselves; stepping back, the disparate layers intertwine like a single, continuous breath.

For the artist, fabric is not merely a medium but a site that harbors time and sensation. The transparent weave of organza shifts endlessly depending on the light and the viewer's gaze, while the layered surfaces open up possibilities for diverse interpretations instead of a single definitive answer. In front of the work, viewers discover more within the blurriness than in clarity, naturally folding their own memories and experiences onto the surface of the screen.

This exhibition does not view vanishing as a loss or an end. Every transition leads to another form, and the remaining traces engender new sensations. Moments that can neither be fully captured nor entirely lost reflect one another, rendering the present deeper and more abundant.

Artist Note ㅣ To me, "fading eternity" is not a transcendent time to be reached, nor is it an immutable state. It is a sense of time generated through the movements of a body circling the same spot—gradually wearing away and displacing itself. As I walk the same path, draw lines with the same gestures, and stack layers upon the surface, the screen blurs and the forms dissolve. Yet, within that blur, afterimages and micro-vibrations remain, refusing to vanish entirely. I call this state "fading eternity."

In this body of work, repetition is not the reproduction of the identical, but a rhythm of becoming that generates differences each time. The form of a flower returns but never stays the same; lines pass through the same spot yet tremble and go awry. Layers cover one another but remain coexistent as afterimages, never fully erased. Rather than maintaining a fixed form, this repetition reveals the flow of time that continuously vanishes, transforms, and endures.

"Fading Eternity" occurs at the point where extinction and permanence cease to oppose each other. Vanishing is not an end but a process of transitioning into a new form, and eternity is perceived within that very movement. The core of this work lies in that indeterminate layer of time—a state suspended somewhere in between, neither fully remaining nor fully vanishing.

The layers within the work simultaneously reveal three dimensions of time. The repetitive hand movements, stitching, and line-drawing form a "time of habit" inscribed upon the body. The faint traces left beneath the overlapping surfaces create a "time of memory" that coexists with the present. Finally, the forms that dissolve and reconfigure in different ways each time point toward a "time of eternity" that repeats difference.

Fabric is the material condition where this sense of time resides. The thin, transparent surface of organza grows more obscure as it is layered, and lines and images bleed between the strata. Here, the fabric acts not merely as a material but as a second skin situated between the body and the world. Easily worn and wrinkled, leaving traces yet impossible to fully eliminate as a layer of sensation, eternity adheres to this very skin.

The time of this exhibition does not flow linearly. Rather than progressing toward a beginning and an end, it forms a loop that repeats and displaces itself in the same spot. Within it, forms blur and meanings disperse without being fixed. Eternity does not converge upon a single center; instead, it scatters into a constellation of micro-differences arising between distinct layers and traces.

Ultimately, "fading eternity" is the prolonged, intermediate time stretched between life and death, existence and extinction. It is not a world over there, but the thick layer of the present—vanishing yet never fully disappearing right here, right now. Following the micro-vibrations that occur in this in-between zone, I trace the face of eternity revealed through repetition.

소개 ㅣ우리는 빛을 본다. 그러나 빛은 언제나 표면에만 머무르지 않는다. 어떤 빛은 시간 속에서 스며들고, 기억을 품으며, 오래도록 마음속에 머문다. 이번 전시는 옻칠이라는 재료를 통해 시간과 자연, 그리고 인간의 내면이 만들어내는 빛을 조명한다.

옻칠은 단숨에 완성되지 않는다. 한 겹의 칠이 마르기를 기다리고, 덧입히고, 또 다시 연마하는 긴 시간을 거쳐 비로소 깊은 광택과 결을 얻는다. 그 느린 과정은 단순한 제작 방식이 아니라 시간을 품는 태도이며, 자연과 인간이 함께 만들어내는 축적의 기록이다. 켜켜이 쌓인 수많은 층은 빛을 머금고, 그 빛은 작품 속에서 또 하나의 시간으로 살아난다.

이번 전시에 참여한 여섯 명의 작가는 서로 다른 시선으로 옻칠의 가능성을 확장한다. 내면의 감정과 기억을 겹겹이 쌓인 색의 깊이로 드러내고, 생명의 순환과 바다의 흐름을 통해 존재들이 서로 연결되어 있음을 이야기한다. 바람과 빛, 밤하늘과 산, 달항아리와 난각, 그리고 자연이 남긴 흔적들은 하나의 형상을 넘어 삶의 감각과 사유를 담아내는 매개가 된다.

이들의 작업에서 빛은 단순히 화면을 밝히는 요소가 아니다. 그것은 감정의 농도이며, 기억의 잔상이고, 자연이 품고 있는 생명의 숨결이다. 때로는 달빛처럼 은은하게 번지고, 때로는 바람처럼 형태 없이 스쳐 지나가며, 깊은 밤의 풍경처럼 보이는 것 너머의 세계를 열어 보인다. 관람자는 작품 앞에서 하나의 이미지를 보는 것이 아니라, 빛이 시간과 만나고 감각과 기억 속에서 다시 피어나는 과정을 경험하게 된다.

전통은 과거를 반복하는 것이 아니라 오늘의 감각으로 다시 살아나는 순간 비로소 현재가 된다. 이번 전시는 오랜 시간 이어져 온 옻칠이라는 재료가 동시대 작가들의 사유와 만나 어떻게 새로운 언어로 확장될 수 있는지를 보여준다. 서로 다른 여섯 개의 세계는 하나의 빛으로 연결되고, 그 빛은 작품을 넘어 우리의 기억과 감각 속에서도 조용히 번져나간다.

나는 인간의 몸과 감각을 하나의 우주라고 생각한다. 내 안에서 일어나는 정서적 떨림, 기억의 잔상, 감각의 변화는 단순한 심리적 반응이 아니라, 끊임없이 팽창하고 수축하는 내적 우주의 움직임이다. 반대로, 내가 몸 밖에서 마주하는 빛, 기후, 공간, 타인의 존재는 또 다른 거대한 외부 우주로 확장된다. 나의 작업은 이 두 우주, 내면과 외부가 서로 충돌하고, 스며들고, 흔적을 남기는 지점을 포착하려는 시도에서 출발한다.

순간의 감정과 기억이 남긴 미세한 흔적을 시각화하기 위해 전통 옻칠이라는 재료를 사용한다. 옻칠은 시간이 만든 재료이며, 동시에 시간을 품은 재료다. 칠의 층은 물질이자 시간의 단면이며, 건조와 연마를 반복하는 과정 속에서 감정과 기억은 천천히 침전되어 또 하나의 층을 만든다. 투명하거나 반투명하게 쌓이는 옻칠의 깊이는 내가 인식하는 감정의 농도, 감각의 진폭을 고스란히 담아내는 공간이 된다.

밤하늘은 끝이 없다. 시선은 머무르지 못하고, 어둠 속으로 계속해서 미끄러진다. 산은 그 아래에서 더 이상 형태로 존재하지 않는다. 빛을 잃은 윤곽은 그림자로 남아, 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것의 경계에 머문다. 나는 이 경계에 머무는 순간에 주목한다.

무엇이 분명해지기 이전, 이름 붙여지기 이전의 상태. '그 너머'는 어떤 공간이 아니라, 인식이 멈추고 감각이 열리는 순간이다. 노자가 말한 유와 무의 사이, 장자가 사유한 분별 이전의 세계처럼, 모든 것은 고정되지 않은 채 흐르고 있다.

색들은 깊어지고, 다시 흔들리며 번져간다. 이 색들은 풍경을 설명하지 않는다. 오히려 하나의 상태에서 다른 상태로 넘어가는, 감각의 이동을 드러낸다. 형태는 닫히지 않고, 공간은 끝나지 않는다. 그 너머는 저 멀리 있는 것이 아니다. 지금, 보이는 것이 더 이상 하나로 고정되지 않는 순간. 그 때 비로소 생성된다.

우리는 매 순간 여러 형태로 존재하고 있다. 각지고, 둥글고, 네모나고, 세모난 여러 형태로.. (중략) 난각 한 조각 한 조각이 달항아리와 질그릇을 이뤄갈 때, 나의 기쁨, 고요, 소망도 핀셋끝 매달린 난각 한조각의 떨림으로 녹아 들어간다. 매 순간 쉼과 소망을 담아 본다. 더 이상 무엇을 증명하지 않아도 내면의 충만함이 중요한 삶을 꿈꾼다.

신란숙 작가의 작품은 빛이 겹겹이 쌓여 만들어낸 시간의 결이다. 수차례 덧입힌 옻칠이 번지며, 표면은 한없이 부드럽고 깊은 울림을 품는다. (중략) 작가는 그 여백 속에서 빛과 마음이 맞닿는 지점을 포착한다. 화면에 드러나지 않은 감정의 결, 말로 설명되지 않는 내면의 흔적이 조용히 번진다.

작가에게 달항아리는 달빛이다. 완벽하지 않은 균형, 미묘한 비대칭은 오히려 인간적인 온기를 품는다. 가까이 다가서면 미세한 흔적과 균열이 마치 피부처럼 살아 숨 쉬며, 시간과 기억의 감각을 불러낸다.

신란숙의 회화는 그렇게 시각을 넘어 감각을 깨운다. 빛과 소리, 정서가 서로 스며들어 마치 눈으로 듣고 귀로 보는 듯한 경험을 이끈다. 그가 그려낸 세계는 달빛처럼 고요하고, 은은하며, 마음 깊은 곳을 천천히 적신다.

바다는 생명의 시작이자 다시 돌아가는 장소이다. 작은 물방울들이 모여 바다가 되고, 바다는 다시 기화하여 세상으로 퍼진다. 이러한 순환 속에서 바다는 끊임없이 새로운 생명의 근원이 된다.

‘순환의 바다’는 이러한 거대한 순환의 흐름 속에서 개별적인 존재들이 서로 연결되어 있음을 이야기한다. 물의 움직임처럼 생명 또한 고정된 상태로 머무르지 않고, 끊임없이 흐르며 다른 존재들과 관계를 맺는다.

이 작품은 바다의 모습을 단순히 재현하기보다 물과 생명이 서로를 만들고 다시 돌아오는 과정 자체를 형상화하려는 시도이다. 작품의 표면은 멈춰 있는 형태이면서도 동시에 끊임없는 흐름을 담고 있으며, 그 속에서 우리는 자연의 근원적인 순환과 생명의 지속을 마주하게 된다.

바람을 그린다. 우리가 태초에 출발한 곳에서 머무르는 곳, 그리고 향해야 할 곳으로의 바람은 분다. 그 바람은 우리의 역사로부터 미래까지를 연결하며 우리의 정체성을 사유하게 한다.

바람과 물, 빛처럼 형태를 고정할 수 없는 자연의 감각과 그 찰나를 포착하는 것이 작업의 출발점이다.

작품에 반복적으로 등장하는 버드나무는 개인과 타자의 경계에 놓인 존재로서 불안정한 시대를 살아가는 현대인의 모습을 투영한다. 화면의 남겨진 이미지와 흔적들은 나의 경험과 의도에서 비롯되었지만 여러분의 경험 속 기억과 시간, 내밀한 감정을 조용히 되짚을 수 있는 여백으로 존재하기를 바란다.

We see light. Yet light never remains merely on the surface. Some light permeates time, carries memory, and lingers quietly within us. Blooming into Light: Ottchil explores the luminous qualities born through time, nature, and the human spirit, expressed in the medium of Ottchil (traditional Korean lacquer).

Ottchil is never completed in an instant. Each layer must patiently dry before another is applied, only to be polished once again. Through this slow and meticulous process, the surface gradually acquires its profound depth and radiant sheen. More than a traditional technique, Ottchil embodies an attitude toward time—a record of accumulation shaped by both nature and human devotion. Layer upon layer, it absorbs light, allowing that light to re-emerge as another expression of time within each work.

The six participating artists expand the expressive possibilities of Ottchil through their distinct artistic visions. Their works reveal the depths of emotion and memory through accumulated layers of color, contemplate the cyclical rhythms of life and the sea, and speak of the invisible connections that bind all living beings. Wind and light, mountains beneath the night sky, moon jars, fragments of eggshell, and traces left by nature transcend their physical forms, becoming vessels through which sensation, contemplation, and lived experience are conveyed.

In these works, light is far more than a visual element. It embodies the density of emotion, the residue of memory, and the quiet breath of life that flows through nature. At times it diffuses softly like moonlight; at others it passes unseen like the wind, opening a world beyond the visible. Standing before these works, viewers encounter not simply images, but the unfolding process through which light meets time and quietly blossoms again within memory and perception.

Tradition is not preserved by repeating the past, but by being continually reimagined through the sensibilities of the present. This exhibition demonstrates how the centuries-old medium of Ottchil evolves into a contemporary visual language through the diverse perspectives of today's artists. Though each artist presents a unique world, all are connected by a shared light—one that extends beyond the artworks themselves, quietly illuminating our own memories and inner landscapes.

'Blooming into Light: Ottchil' invites us to experience the beauty that emerges through patience and the profound depth that only time can create. As viewers linger before each work, they may discover the layered traces of time beneath its luminous surface, and perhaps recognize that their own memories and emotions, too, continue to glow with a gentle and enduring light.

소개 ㅣ우리는 때때로 설명할 수 없는 이미지와 마주한다. 기억이라고 부르기에는 모호하고, 상상이라 하기에는 지나치게 선명한 장면들은 의식의 경계를 스치며 머물다 사라진다. 이번 전시 ‘떠도는 짐승과 낯선 이에게’는 바로 그 불분명한 지점에서 출발한다.

이세림 작가에게 이미지는 단순한 재현의 대상이 아니다. 그것은 오랜 시간 몸에 축적된 감각, 기억, 무의식의 흔적들이 서로 얽히고 교차하며 생성되는 하나의 풍경이다. 화면 속 형상들은 특정한 서사를 설명하기보다, 언어 이전의 감각과 내면 깊숙한 곳에 잠재된 정서를 불러낸다.

석회를 바른 캔버스와 불규칙한 석고 위에 새겨진 이미지들은 마치 오래된 벽화의 파편처럼 시간의 층위를 품고 있다. 단단한 표면 위에 축적된 흔적들은 끊임없이 생성과 소멸을 반복하며, 익숙하면서도 낯선 존재의 얼굴을 드러낸다. 그것은 어쩌면 아직 알지 못하는 자기 자신이며, 무심히 지나쳤던 기억의 잔상이기도 하다.

작가는 작품 속에 흩어진 기억과 감각의 파편들이 하나의 이미지로 직조되는 과정을 담아낸다. 이번 전시는 무의식 속의 이미지와 기억, 감각이 교차하는 지점에서 형성된 내면의 풍경을 선보인다.

작가노트 ㅣ 어느 여행지를 떠나기 전날 아침이었다. 산책로를 걷다 눈앞에 펼쳐진 올리브밭과 그 주위를 맴도는 풀내음 속에서 황무지를 헤매던 한 마리 짐승과 주인이 만나는 이미지가 떠올랐다. 이유는 알 수 없었다. 서로 다른 멜로디가 우연히 연결되듯 머릿속에 떠도는 이미지들은 때때로 기묘하게 연결되고 뒤섞인다.

감각을 통해 축적된 기억과 경험은 무의식의 표면을 떠돌며 설명할 수 없는 방식으로 이미지를 연결하고 결합해 뇌리에 떠올랐다가 가라앉는다. 이미지를 그려내는 일은 무의식의 사이를 떠도는 파편들을 몸의 기억으로 줍거나 기워내는 과정이다. 몸이 기억하는 균형과 비례로 떠도는 형상을 물리적 표면으로 옮기며 내가 모르는 ‘나’를 알아간다. 미지의 ‘내’가 남긴 흔적들로 그의 생각을 추적하고 상상하고 직조하며 되새긴다.

<To the Wandering Beast and the Stranger> - Lee, Serim

At times, we encounter images that resist explanation. Too elusive to be called memories, yet too vivid to be mere imagination, they linger at the edge of consciousness before quietly fading away. 'To the Wandering Beast and the Stranger' begins from this ambiguous territory.

For Lee, Serim, images are not simply subjects of representation. They are landscapes formed through the intertwining of accumulated sensations, memories, and traces of the unconscious. Rather than conveying a specific narrative, the forms that emerge within her work evoke emotions and sensations that exist beyond language.

Rendered on lime wash canvases and irregular plaster surfaces, the images carry layers of time like fragments of ancient murals. The traces embedded within these solid surfaces continuously appear and disappear, revealing presences that feel both familiar and unfamiliar. They may be reflections of a self not yet fully known, or lingering echoes of forgotten memories.

Lee captures the process through which scattered fragments of memory and sensation are woven into a single image. This exhibition presents inner landscapes shaped at the intersection of unconscious imagery, memory, and perception.

Artist Note

It was the morning before leaving a place I had been traveling. While walking along a path, I found myself surrounded by the scent of grass drifting through an olive grove. In that moment, an image appeared in my mind: a wandering beast crossing a barren land and finally meeting its owner. I could not explain why.

Images drift through the mind much like melodies that unexpectedly connect. Memories and experiences accumulated through the senses float across the surface of the unconscious, linking and merging in ways that defy logic. They rise to consciousness, then sink away again.

Creating images is a process of gathering and stitching together these drifting fragments through the memory of the body. Guided by the body's sense of balance and proportion, I transfer fleeting forms onto physical surfaces, gradually discovering parts of myself that remain unknown. Through the traces left by this unfamiliar self, I follow, imagine, weave, and revisit its thoughts.

On lime wash canvases and irregular plaster forms, I draw traces of images that are endlessly connected and dismantled. I reflect upon the parts of myself I do not yet know. Like murals that endure through time, I carve complex images into solid surfaces, recalling the unfamiliar self that remains hidden within.

소개 ㅣ 우리는 때때로 설명할 수 없는 외로움 앞에서 오래 머문다. 누구에게도 쉽게 닿지 못한 마음은 조용히 흔들리고, 무심히 바라본 창밖의 풍경 속에서 비로소 작은 숨을 돌리게 된다. 리호 작가의 작업은 바로 그 고요한 순간에서 시작된다.

작품 속에 등장하는 검은 고양이는 숲길을 천천히 걷고, 바람이 머무는 자리에서 가만히 쉬며, 때로는 아무 말 없이 자연을 바라본다. 특별한 사건도, 과장된 감정도 없다. 그러나 그 담담한 풍경 안에는 우리가 잊고 지내던 감각들이 조용히 스며 있다. 흔들리는 나무와 흘러가는 구름, 순간마다 색을 바꾸는 하늘처럼 세상은 끊임없이 움직이고 변화하며 서로의 숨결 안에서 연결되어 있다는 사실이다.

리호 작가는 자연을 단순한 배경으로 바라보지 않는다. 자연은 작가에게 위로이자 감각의 언어이며, 외로움을 견디게 하는 조용한 존재이다. 화면 속 작은 고양이는 결국 우리 자신의 모습과도 닮아 있다. 때로는 혼자 걷고 있지만 결코 완전히 고립되지 않고, 빛과 그늘이 반복되는 시간 속에서도 끝내 삶의 온기를 발견한다.

작품 속 풍경은 마치 오래 바라보던 창밖처럼 마음 깊숙한 곳에 천천히 스며든다. 네모난 화면 안에 담긴 숲과 하늘, 그리고 작은 생명의 움직임은 빠르게 흘러가는 일상 속에서 잠시 멈추어 숨을 고르게 한다.

작가노트 ㅣ 작은 검정 고양이는 아주 평온하게 자연 속에 존재한다. 작은 발자국을 따라 걷거나, 함께 앉아 쉬거나, 혹은 가만 바라보는 것만으로도 좋다. 그렇게 자연 속에 가만 존재하다 보면, 그늘진 곳마저도 사소한 빛이 스민다는 것, 가만있는 듯 보이지만 아주 옅게 움직이고 있다는 것, 결국엔 결코 혼자가 아니라는 것을 안다.

어떻게 해야할지 모르겠을 외로움이 몰려오면 창밖을 가만 바라보곤 했다. 흘러가는 구름을, 흔들리는 나무를, 순식간에 변하는 노을지는 하늘을. 그럴 때면 저 깊은 산 속의 누군가가, 높은 하늘을 날고 있을 누군가가 이야기해주는 것 같았다. 모두 함께 흘러가고, 흔들리고, 변하고, 숨 쉬고 있다고. 여러번의 그늘과 빛이 지나 낮과 밤이, 한 계절이 흐르는 내내 혼자가 아니었다고.

혼자라도 결코 외롭지 않을 작은 고양이를 따라 함께 숨을 멀리 쉬어 본다. 한 때 나의 전부였던 네모난 창 밖의 풍경처럼, 네모난 그림 속 장면이 위로가 될 수 있다면 좋겠다.

<Light Seeping Through the Edge of Shadows> - LIHO

At times, we find ourselves lingering in a loneliness that cannot easily be explained. A heart unable to fully reach another quietly trembles, and only while gazing absentmindedly out the window do we finally catch a small breath of relief. The work of artist LIHO begins precisely in that still and silent moment.

Within the paintings, a black cat slowly walks along forest paths, rests where the wind settles, and at times simply gazes into nature without a word. There are no dramatic events or exaggerated emotions. Yet within these calm and understated scenes, forgotten sensations gently return to us. Swaying trees, drifting clouds, and skies that change color from moment to moment remind us that the world is constantly moving, transforming, and quietly connected through the breath of all living things.

For LIHO, nature is never merely a background. It is a source of comfort, a language of feeling, and a quiet presence that helps one endure loneliness. The small cat within the paintings ultimately resembles ourselves. Though it often walks alone, it is never entirely isolated, and within the repeating cycles of light and shadow, it continues to discover the warmth of life.

The landscapes in these works slowly seep into the heart like a familiar view once watched endlessly through a window. Forests, skies, and the subtle movement of small living beings contained within each square canvas invite us to pause, breathe, and rest for a moment amid the speed of everyday life.

<The Forest of Luminous Silence> -Hara Kang, Hye-Ree Yoo
In an age where human worth is often measured by wealth and possession, we constantly find ourselves compared, categorized, and placed within invisible hierarchies. In a world driven by speed and efficiency, genuine communication and essential human values are easily lost, leaving many of us carrying quiet anxieties within our daily lives.

<The Forest of Luminous Silence>, exhibition by Hara Kang and Hye-Ree Yoo, offers a gentle consolation to those living through this imperfect reality. Within the deep and imaginative forests of their canvases, the two artists portray contemporary life through the silent language of imagery, inviting viewers on a journey toward inner reflection and rediscovery. While Yoo creates a “space of silence” through voiceless fish and symbolic gardens—exploring emotional connection and inner healing—Kang presents a “luminous awakening,” rekindling forgotten instincts and encouraging them to be shared outward into the world.

On a bright spring day, we hope this beautiful forest becomes a place of healing—a place where visitors may quietly dismantle the walls of disconnection surrounding them and warmly reflect upon their own inner selves.

An Adventure to Awaken the Forgotten Inner Light — Hara Kang

Through whimsical and fable-like narratives, Kang recalls the essential values and inner imagination that modern society has gradually forgotten. In her works, the deer’s antlers are not decorative objects meant for display, nor symbols of material value. Instead, they represent the unique abilities, memories, and wisdom that awaken only through deep thought and reflection.

Like contemporary individuals who conceal their true selves under social pressure and emotional numbness, the deer in Kang’s paintings embark on journeys into mysterious forests in search of their own forgotten light. Antlers blooming with flowers, bearing fruit, or becoming shelters for birds symbolize the many forms of life and individuality we long to reclaim.
The artist’s fairytale-like world becomes a quiet lantern in the darkness, encouraging viewers to rediscover the senses and emotions lost amid competition and relentless speed, while gently illuminating the inner self.

In the Wordless World, a Quiet Solidarity of Coexistence — Hye-Ree Yoo

Rooted in thoughtful reflections on human life and relationships, Hye-Ree Yoo visualizes the fragmented emotional landscape of contemporary society through metaphorical imagery. The irregular plants and simplified fish that appear throughout her paintings become portraits of modern individuals enduring the complexity and instability of everyday life.
Paradoxically, the silent world of fish evokes the deepest layers of human emotion and the dense stillness that often exists beneath words. By flattening perspective and arranging her subjects side by side without hierarchy, the artist creates a space where no presence is diminished or overlooked. Just as no life is inherently superior to another, the freely growing plants moving in their own rhythms reflect the artist’s affectionate gaze toward each individual human being.

소개 ㅣ 오랜 시간 우리 곁에 머물러온 것은 늘 너무 익숙해서 쉽게 의식되지 않는다. 그러나 어떤 것들은 그 익숙함 속에서 더욱 깊은 의미를 품는다. 세종대왕이 남긴 문자는 단순한 기록의 도구를 넘어, 시대를 건너 사람과 사람의 마음을 잇는 조용한 다리로 존재해왔다. 그 다정한 시작은 수백 년의 시간을 지나 오늘의 일상 속에서도 여전히 살아 숨 쉬고 있다.

김정민의 작업은 이 오래된 문자를 새로운 감각으로 다시 바라보는 데서 출발한다. 화면 위에 흩어진 형태들은 더 이상 읽히기 위한 기호에 머물지 않고, 서로를 향해 스며들며 하나의 유기적 형상을 이룬다. 분리되어 있던 요소들은 자연스럽게 결합하며, 어느 순간 꽃의 형상으로 피어난다. 그 안에는 언어가 지닌 따뜻한 결속과, 보이지 않지만 분명히 이어져 있는 관계의 흐름이 담겨 있다.

작가노트 ㅣ 누구나 제 뜻을 담아 쉽게 쓰고 누리길 바라며 품었던 세종의 다정한 마음은, 580여 년의 세월을 지나 오늘 우리의 삶 속에 자연스럽게 자리하고 있다. 이번 작업은 그 애틋한 ‘애민(愛民)’의 진심을 한글의 조형미를 통해 다시 바라보고, 이를 차분한 시각 언어로 풀어낸 것이다. 글자를 단순한 기호가 아닌, 마음을 담는 그릇으로 생각하며 한글이 지닌 온기를 오월의 꽃의 모습으로 표현하고자 했다.

화면을 이루는 자음과 모음의 조각들은 서로를 보듬으며 하나의 꽃 형태를 만든다. 맞물린 획과 획 사이에는 사람과 사람, 삶과 삶을 이어주는 언어의 생명력이 담겨 있다. 곧은 선은 줄기가 되고, 곡선은 유연한 꽃잎이 되어 글자라는 기호는 이내 생동하는 자연의 미학으로 변모한다. 이는 한글이 단순한 문자에 그치지 않고 우리 존재를 지탱하는 깊은 뿌리이자 연결 고리임을 상징한다.

오래된 질감 위에 새겨진 글자들은 창제의 순간에 머무르지 않고, 오랜 시간 일상 속에서 함께 살아 움직여온 시간을 증명한다. 척박한 계절을 견디고 마침내 피어난 꽃처럼, 한글은 그렇게 우리의 삶 가까이에서 가장 낮고 따뜻한 목소리로 존재해 왔다. 오월의 맑은 빛 아래 만개한 이 ‘한글 꽃’이 먼 과거 어느 날 건네졌을 다정한 인사의 잔향처럼, 오늘의 우리에게도 선뜻 찾아든 자연 푸름같이, 오월의 선물로 마음에 잔잔히 닿기를 생각한다.

<A Gift of May> - Solo Exhibition by Jung-Min Kim

What has long remained by our side often becomes so familiar that we scarcely notice it. Yet within that familiarity, certain things hold a deeper resonance. The script created by King Sejong the Great transcends its role as a mere tool of record, existing instead as a quiet bridge that carries the hearts of people across time. Its compassionate beginning has endured for centuries and continues to breathe within our everyday lives.

Kim Jung-Min’s work begins by revisiting this ancient script through a renewed sensibility. The forms scattered across the canvas no longer remain as symbols meant solely to be read; they gently permeate one another, forming an organic whole. Elements once separate come together naturally and, at a certain moment, bloom into the shape of a flower. Within this transformation lies the warmth of language’s connective power and the subtle yet undeniable flow of relationships that bind us.

The rhythm created by straight lines and curves gradually acquires vitality, as structure transforms into sensation. Firm forms take root, while softer lines extend into leaves and petals, expanding the canvas into a living landscape. In doing so, the work reminds us that script is not merely a system of signs, but a fundamental foundation that sustains our lives and carries our emotions.

The traces of time embedded in the work do not simply recreate the past. Rather, they reveal the layered textures of life accumulated over time, holding within them the breath of the present moment that continues to unfold. Like a flower that blooms again through the cycle of seasons, the work revives enduring meanings through a contemporary sensibility.

소개 ㅣ 광활한 자연 앞에서 인간의 감각은 때로 언어로는 닿지 않는 깊이에 머문다. 이은경의 작업은 바로 그 감각이 가장 밀도 높게 응축되는 지점에서 출발한다. 프랑스 유학 시절, 파리 근교 들판에서 마주한 강렬한 색채의 기억은 작가에게 단순한 풍경을 넘어선 경험으로 남았다. 그것은 빛과 공기, 바람과 온도가 뒤섞이며 전신으로 스며들던 ‘몰입의 순간’이었다.

이번 전시는 그러한 감각적 체험을 현대적 매체인 필라멘트를 통해 새롭게 번역한 결과물이다. 작가는 전통적인 붓질의 방식을 벗어나, 필라멘트를 한 겹씩 쌓아 올리고 엮어내는 ‘적층’과 ‘직조’의 과정을 통해 회화의 평면성을 넘어선다. 이 반복적이고 축적된 행위는 단순한 형식적 실험을 넘어, 생명의 두께와 시간의 결을 물리적 부피로 구현하려는 시도이기도 하다.

<Layered Vitality> - Solo Exhibition by Eun-Kyung Lee

Before the vastness of nature, human perception often lingers in depths beyond the reach of language. Eun-Kyung Lee’s work begins precisely at that point—where sensation is most densely condensed. During her time studying in France, the vivid colors she encountered in the fields on the outskirts of Paris remained with her as an experience that transcended mere landscape. It was a moment of total immersion, where light, air, wind, and temperature intertwined and permeated her entire being.

This exhibition presents a reinterpretation of such sensory experiences through the contemporary medium of filament. Moving away from traditional brushwork, the artist builds and interweaves filament layer by layer, transcending the flatness of painting through processes of layering and weaving. This repetitive and accumulative act goes beyond formal experimentation, becoming an attempt to materialize the thickness of life and the texture of time as physical volume.

In particular, the color yellow, which flows throughout the works, expands beyond a singular hue into a complex sensory field that embodies multiple strata of nature. Differentiated into the vitality of rapeseed flowers, the warmth of soil, and the afterglow of sunset, yellow resonates more deeply through its contrast with emerald green. This interplay amplifies the breath of nature and visually evokes its vitality and cyclical rhythm.

The fields across Eun-Kyung Lee’s canvases are not mere representations. They are woven records of experience—imbued with the textures of wind, the scent of grass, and the warmth of light—forming a space shaped by the accumulation of sensation. The three-dimensional structure of filament absorbs light and air, inviting viewers into an immersive experience, as if standing in the midst of an actual field.

소개 ㅣ 하얀 햇살이 수면 위에 내려앉는 순간, 물빛은 부서지며 윤슬로 번져나간다. 그 미세한 떨림은 단순한 풍경을 넘어, 보이지 않는 생명의 호흡을 드러낸다. 깊은 심연 속에 가라앉아 있던 존재들은 빛을 따라 서서히 떠오르고, 그 움직임은 다시 하나의 리듬이 되어 세계를 진동시킨다.

리영의 작업은 바로 이 ‘떠오름’의 순간에서 출발한다. 윤슬은 그에게 단순한 자연 현상이 아니라, 내면 깊은 곳에 잠재된 의욕과 감각을 일깨우는 생명의 단위이다. 허기진 창작의 순간마다, 빛과 물이 만들어내는 미세한 파동은 세포처럼 스며들어 작업을 다시 움직이게 하는 원동력이 된다.

이번 전시 《생명의 노래 – from the nature》는 자연이 들려주는 가장 근원적인 울림에 대한 응답이다. 화면 위에 펼쳐진 빛의 흔적과 흐름은 특정한 형상을 재현하기보다, 생명이 생성되고 확장되는 과정을 감각적으로 번역한다. 이는 자연을 바라보는 시선이자, 동시에 스스로를 탄생시키는 행위에 가깝다.

리영에게 자연은 대상이 아니라 끊임없이 교류하는 존재이며, 윤슬은 그 접점에서 발생하는 가장 섬세한 신호이다. 이 전시는 그 신호를 따라가며, 우리가 잊고 있던 생명의 리듬과 감각을 다시 호출한다. 빛과 물, 그리고 그 사이에서 태어나는 떨림 속에서 관람자는 자신만의 ‘생명의 노래’를 마주하게 될 것이다.

<Song of Life> - Solo Exhibition by Young-Min Lee

The moment white sunlight settles upon the surface of the water, it fractures into shimmering ripples. This delicate trembling transcends mere scenery, revealing the hidden breath of life. From the depths of the abyss, where existence has long been submerged, beings slowly rise toward the light, their movement forming a rhythm that gently resonates through the world.

Lee’s work begins precisely at this moment of emergence. For the artist, the shimmering ripples are not simply a natural phenomenon, but a vital unit of life that awakens latent desire and sensitivity within. In moments of creative hunger, the subtle waves created by light and water permeate like cells, becoming the driving force that sets the work in motion once again.

This exhibition, Song of Life – from the nature, is a response to the most fundamental resonance of nature. The traces of light and flowing forms that unfold across the surface do not aim to reproduce specific shapes; rather, they sensorially translate the process through which life is generated and expanded. It is both a way of seeing nature and an act of self-renewal.

For Lee, nature is not an object, but a presence in constant exchange. The shimmering ripples are the most delicate signals that arise at this point of contact. Following these signals, the exhibition calls forth the rhythms and sensations of life that we may have forgotten. Within the interplay of light and water—and the vibrations born between them—viewers are invited to encounter their own “song of life.”
